Advanced Biofuels of Idaho, LLC, (ABI) announces that it has selected Navitas, a leading collaborative project delivery company headquartered in Olathe, Kansas, as the engineer-procure construct (EPC) contractor for its Magic1 biogas facility in Heyburn, Idaho. Magic1 will process food waste substrates and produce biogas by means of an anaerobic digestion process, upgrade and condition the biogas to produce renewable natural gas (RNG), inject the RNG into a gas pipeline and sell it as low-carbon-intensity (CI) fuel. The facility will leverage an existing 12.4-million-gallon capacity anaerobic digester complex to accept and process organic waste substrates from local food processors and agricultural businesses as feedstock at a projected volume of 460,000 gallons per day and produce RNG at an estimated rate of 2,000 MMBtu per day.
As EPC contractor, Navitas is responsible for design, construction, organic feedstock sourcing, and facility optimization. In accordance with ABI’s directive that dollars should be spent locally before going elsewhere, they have assembled a team of leading local key trade contractors that currently include Gary Jones Construction, Heglar Creek Electric, Forsgren Associates Inc., and Civil Science. “At Navitas, our team has devoted the last decade to designing and constructing food waste-to-energy anaerobic digestion facilities, we are excited to now support ABI in its goal to help grow the economy of Heyburn and Idaho’s Magic Valley,” said Dennis Clough, Navitas’ Managing Director for Infrastructure Solutions.
“We’re excited to work with the Navitas team because they not only understand the technical requirements of our project, but they also equally focus on the people side of this effort as well. ABI will be a positive contributing member of the Heyburn and Magic Valley community for years to come and Navitas understands this is as important to us as making RNG,” says Scott Mears, CEO of ABI.
Engineering, permitting, and site design for ABI’s Magic1 facility is underway. Long lead items have been and will continue to be purchased and the project is effectively under construction. ABI and Navitas have a scheduled completion date of December 31st, 2024.
